# what we use
Cookies we set on this site.
We keep the cookie footprint deliberately small. In particular we do not use tracking cookies for advertising, we do not use Google Analytics, and we do not embed third-party marketing pixels.
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Duration | Consent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_test_cookie | Strictly necessary | WordPress uses this to check that cookies are enabled during login flows. | Session | No (exempt under PECR reg 6(4)) |
| wordpress_logged_in_* | Strictly necessary | Keeps a logged-in editor authenticated. Not set for readers. | Session | No (exempt under PECR) |
| wp-settings-* | Strictly necessary | Stores editor preferences inside the admin area. Not set for readers. | 1 year | No (exempt under PECR) |
We use Plausible Analytics for site analytics. Plausible is cookieless: it does not set cookies of any kind, does not collect personal data, and does not track individuals across sites. Because no cookies are set and no personal data collected, no consent banner is required for Plausible under UK PECR and ICO guidance. See the privacy policy for full detail.
# no marketing cookies
What we do not set.
- No advertising cookies. We do not run display ads.
- No Google Analytics. We use cookieless Plausible instead.
- No Facebook / Meta Pixel. Not installed.
- No affiliate-tracking cookies of our own. Where you click an affiliate link, the destination site (Escape Studios, Coursera, Domestika, etc.) may set its own cookies once you leave our site; consult that site’s cookie policy.
- No fingerprinting. No client-side identification techniques.
# your controls
How to change your browser cookie settings.
You can block or delete cookies at any time via your browser. Instructions vary by browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions.
Because we do not set non-essential cookies for readers, blocking cookies will not affect your ability to read the site.
Questions about cookies or privacy: email [email protected], subject “cookies”. For your rights under UK GDPR see the privacy policy.
