Coloso review 2026.
Korea-origin masterclass platform. Individual courses at premium price, celebrity-instructor angle (senior Korean-studio and game-industry artists), very high production values on video. English-subtitled throughout. We looked at the 3D character, illustration, and environment shelves that make it a talked-about option in intermediate UK CG communities.
Alternative to consider for intermediate learners
TL;DR verdict
- Verdict: Alternative to consider for intermediate to advanced learners shadowing a specific senior artist.
- Format: Individual masterclasses, lifetime access, video + downloadable working files, English subtitles, no mentor feedback.
- Price: £70–£300 per masterclass. Bundles and sales bring individual courses lower.
- Best for: Intermediate 3D character, illustration, or environment artists who want to shadow a Korean or Japanese studio senior for a whole project.
- Skip if: You are a total beginner (Coloso assumes fundamentals) or you want UK-market styling and studio alignment.

# what it is
What Coloso is.
Coloso is a Korean masterclass platform, launched 2020, that treats each course like a signed authored film. The pitch: recruit a senior artist from a Korean studio (NCsoft, Krafton, Neowiz) or game/animation industry, film a 30 to 60 hour project walkthrough at very high production standard, add English subtitles, sell it as a standalone masterclass. There is no cohort, no live element, no critique loop.
The catalogue is narrower than the marketplaces above and heavier on 3D character art, illustration, environment, and concept. Coloso courses do not compete on breadth. They compete on depth: one senior artist, one project, taken end to end, filmed with high-end camera work and clear multi-monitor screen capture. If you have ever wanted to sit behind a senior at their station for a week, this is the closest a subscription page gets.
# curriculum
Curriculum and the instructor bench.
Structure per masterclass: 30 to 60 hours split across 40 to 90 chapters. You get the artist thinking through concept, reference, block-out, mid-pass, detail, materials, lighting, render, and post. Working files (.blend, .ma, .zpr, .psd) come with the course. There is no forum, no mentor feedback, no assessment. You watch, you build alongside, or you do not.
Instructor bench is genuinely senior. Character and creature courses are led by working leads and senior artists with credits at NCsoft, Krafton, and adjacent studios; illustration masterclasses are taught by artists with published books and gallery followings. The naming convention on Coloso is instructor-first (their name is the product), which raises the stakes for the artist and their work.
The honest limit: this is shadowing, not teaching. Coloso assumes you know your software, know the pipeline, and can pattern-match by watching a senior work. It is not a beginners platform even when the marketing suggests otherwise. Do not be the first learner in a Coloso 3D character course. Do a Blender fundamentals path first.
# price
Price and value.
Pricing is per-masterclass, and the range is wider than most competitors. Individual courses run £70–£300 depending on runtime and instructor tier. Coloso runs seasonal sales, bundles, and payment plans; new-user coupons appear regularly.
| Product | Format | Price (GBP) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual masterclass (typical) | Lifetime access, 30–60 hours | £100–£200 | Shadowing one senior on one project |
| Individual masterclass (headline) | Lifetime, celebrity instructor | £200–£300 | Named lead artist you already follow |
| Sale price / bundle | Lifetime, multi-course pack | £70–£150 | Committing to a discipline |
| Payment plan | 3–6 months, per masterclass | Per-course terms | Spreading a headline masterclass |
Value assessment: at £100 for 40 hours of a working Krafton character lead, this is one of the highest hours-of-senior-instruction-per-pound rates in this comparison. At £300 it costs the same as a full CGMA term with mentor feedback. Below £150 the case is strong for intermediate learners with a specific hero they want to shadow. Above £200 the case gets thinner unless the instructor is unique.
# UK fit
UK learner fit.
SFE loan eligibility: none. Coloso is a consumer masterclass platform, not a qualifying course provider.
Visa impact: none. Self-paced online study does not support a UK study visa or Graduate route.
UK studio recognition: nil for the certificate. Meaningful for portfolio pieces produced during a masterclass, with two caveats worth flagging honestly. First, the courseware assumes Korean and Japanese studio styling (heavier hero-character focus, MMO and mobile-game visual language, anime-adjacent proportions on some character courses). A UK VFX-track applicant to Framestore or DNEG needs to counterbalance with UK-market pieces (photoreal, character in real-world lighting). Second, a piece built directly alongside a Coloso masterclass reads as a Coloso piece to a hiring lead if the concept and pose match the instructor sample. Rebuild in your own style before it hits the reel. Tax note for UK self-employed learners: course purchases are typically deductible on Self Assessment, keep the receipt.
# alternatives
Alternatives to consider.
- CGMA: mentor-led equivalent at £599–£999 per term, US-studio pipeline styling closer to UK expectations.
- Domestika: similar senior-artist-led model at lower price point, European sensibility, illustration crossover.
- Rebelway: for the same shadow-a-senior brief but on the Houdini FX track rather than character.
