How to Choose a Web Design Company?
Any Internet Search for a website designer will bring up hundreds, maybe thousands of website designers in any given local area all offering their services. The choice is mind boggling. In Part 1 of our tutorial, How to Choose a Web Design Company?, We will help you work out who would be best for you!.
How to sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to web designers
Any Internet Search for a website designer will bring up hundreds of website designers in any given local area all offering their services, with endless options ranging from those offering a variety of basic template designs, customised templates, flash sites all the way up to complex eCommerce sites that are mobile friendly, streaming music and video.
The choice is mind boggling and knowing where to start can be daunting. Following the below steps will help:
Draw up a List of Outcomes
Rather than start with a list of what you think you need, think in terms about outcomes and draw up a Wish List. For example, there is no point in having a fully fledged eCommerce site if you are not actually in the business of selling anything, be it goods or services. This sounds obvious but if you first focus on what you want from your site, some of the options will automatically fall by the wayside and help keep costs under control.
Once you have your Wish List, next divide this into three separate columns, headed:
- Essential
- Required
- Nice to Have
This will help later on when it comes to drawing up and then discussing your specification with your chosen designer, as all the outcomes in the Essential column and a fair number in the Required column should be what you focus on achieving. Those that have ended up in the Nice to Have column are expendable, if the budget does not stretch and can be put on the back burner for future development.
